Eligibility Criteria for
Patent Agent Examination

Citizenship of India.

Science degree from a recognized university.

Age of minimum 21 years.

Work Profile of a Patent Agent

Patent agents assist clients in securing patents, which are licenses to ownership in scientific creations such as software, engines, equipment, and medications. The responsibilities of a patent agent vary depending on their employer. But in general, they need to carry out some or all of the following tasks:

  • Conduct searches to identify relevant patents and published documents.
  • Advise on the patentability of inventions.
  • Draft patent applications.
  • Communicate with clients about the status of applications and provide advice about how to respond to Indian Patent Office.
  • File responses to Indian Patent Office, amendments and petitions requesting reconsideration of an examiner’s decision.
  • A patent agent also has to prepare all documents, execute any business, and perform any other duties that the examiner may require in connection with any proceeding before the Controller under this Act.
